Draw Alien Fantasies

NL31765
by Damon J. Reinagle

From School Library Journal

Gr 3 Up--In an average of five steps, Reinagle shows how to draw all sorts of exciting extraterrestrial characters. Each sketch gradually takes the shape of the desired creature in a line-by-line process. The black-and-white illustrations accompanying the written instructions are concise and clear. General words of encouragement appear throughout the text as do little blurbs mentioning space facts and asking interesting questions that are left unanswered. A postscript says that the answers can be found in a "variety of books on exploring space, in your local library"--but only a true space fanatic is likely to go to the trouble to look them up. Because the author does not go into great detail about basic techniques, readers should have some previous knowledge of drawing so as not to become frustrated. Someone with the above experience, however, will love all the outrageous creatures they can create.
